Using websites for marketing and public relations

 

Beginning in 1995, I began supporting hospital and hospital company – as well as natural/alternative health – websites and related online strategies.  Much of this work involved promotion of websites; but at the same time, I began exploring ways to use hospital websites as marketing and public relations tools.

 

One key factor I’ve determined – and applied to all kinds of clients (not just hospital clients) – is the effective creation and implementation of website press rooms.  A solid and innovative press room can be a dramatically useful in facilitating and enhancing relations with reporters and editors.  I have developed a checklist of the kinds of things that ought to be included in a press room, and have a refined this for several specific market niches.

This was first presented to a senior hospital marketer audience weeks before the beginning of the new millennium – and the outline of that presentation, along with the text of several hand-outs, can be found below.

 

Since then, I’ve been able to put this strategy into action, developing strategies and implementing tactics for a variety of clients.  One of those clients has graciously given me permission to share the initial plan – with the sole proviso that I can’t share it with their direct, in-market competitors.
