Fellowship Paper
In 1984, I became the first person to earn Fellowship status with the American Hospital Association. To earn this honor, I conducted original and secondary research and wrote a major paper – think “masters thesis” – on the confluence of public relations, advertising and marketing in a hospital setting.
This Fellowship Paper was published by the American Hospital Association and widely distributed to hospitals throughout the U.S. While nearly two decades old, the basic findings continue to hold up in the marketplace.

Note: This document appears as originally written in 1984, as written on a CP/M computer using an early generation of WordStar, a now-obsolete (but then state-of-the-art) software system. This document has been converted from CP/M WordStar to DOS WordStar to Word for Windows (which is reflected in the formatting).
The information presented here, while nearly two decades old, remains – at least in my opinion – remarkably current in its core conclusions. This is NOT a document of merely historical interest, but demonstrates the impact of revolutionary changes on any established standard of a given industry’s marketing communications standards.
